No modern government has ever held Australians in such proactive contempt. Liberals will not do what needs to be done
As I write this, Malcolm Turnbull is still prime minister of Australia. As you read it, it could be someone else. But the political crisis that’s beset Malcolm Turnbull since he himself rolled a party predecessor to seize the leadership will remain unresolved. It’s not going to matter if it’s the authoritarian Peter Dutton, the hectoring Scott Morrison, consummate socialite Julie Bishop or a resurrected Argos-like beached hulk of what used to be Turnbull. It’s not going to matter which faction, state, or centre-right tendency. If it’s a Liberal, it will be the same.
