A sky of blue and a sea of green settled over Perth Arena as Grand Final day dawned. Not even the early start of 11am or the fun run road closures could dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd as they eagerly milled around the gates. A few specks of gold permeated the green, but any attempts to start up cheers for the visiting Sunshine Coast Lightning were quickly drowned out by a parochial West Coast Fever crowd who weren’t having any of these easterners flying in and making themselves heard.
A short lead-in time for the visitors was a talking point pre-match, having arrived less than 24 hours before the match.
