Tennis great John McEnroe fears Nick Kyrgios is on a path to tennis ruin if he does not change his ways. “He’s going to run himself out of the game at this point, which I don’t want to see. But that’s what’s going to happen. It’s as clear as day,” McEnroe told the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes program.
McEnroe’s provocative claim comes barely a fortnight after Kyrgios publicly announced he was seeking professional help to “get on top of” his mental health issues. McEnroe put his hand up to mentor Kyrgios two years ago, an offer that prompted a “he’s dreaming” response from the Australian but the pair have since bonded while McEnroe has captained Kyrgios in Team World for the first two editions of the Laver Cup.
