What do you think about logging in Victoria’s native forests?
We need better scientific information before making a decision on the future of Victoria’s native forests.
We should establish a 355,000ha Great Forests National Park in Victoria’s central highlands, which would effectively stop native forest logging.
We should protect the $7bn forestry industry and its 21,000 jobs by continuing to allow native forest logging.
Which energy policy do you support?
Increasing the state’s renewable energy production target to 50% by 2030 and encouraging residential rooftop solar.
Setting a 100% renewable energy production target.
Building a new 500MW baseload power station, that could be coal, gas, or renewables.
What is your public transport priority?
Wheelchair accessible tram stops.
An airport rail link and a suburban rail loop linking suburban train stations.
High speed rail links to Ballarat, Bendigo, and Geelong.
What do you think about the “African gangs” issue?
It’s a beat-up by the media and conservative politicians.
Victoria does have a problem with crime committed by people of African descent, but it has been over-inflated by the media.
Crime by African-Australian youths is out of control because both the government and police are soft on crime.
How should Melbourne respond to population growth?
We should allow medium-density development in middle-ring suburbs as well as continued outer-suburban growth.
We should focus on medium-density developments in the suburban ring and also developing brownfields sites.
Melbourne is already too big — we should focus on building up regional centres like Ballarat, Bendigo, and Geelong.
What is your view of a treaty between government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples?
I support a clan-based treaty that asserts the continued sovereignty of traditional owners.
I support the negotiation of a treaty or treaty between the state of Victoria and either all Aboriginal Victorians, or clan-based groups of Victorians.
I don’t think state governments should negotiate a treaty.
What is your priority in education policy?
Reintroducing religious instruction classes to state schools, scrapping the safe schools policy, and free textbooks for high school students.
Protecting safe schools, funding respectful relationships classes, and subsidised access to three-year-old kindergarten.
Funding 70% of all TAFE fees to encourage vocational education and training.
What is your law and order priority?
Tackling domestic violence.
Introducing mandatory sentences to ensure tougher penalties for violent crimes.
Redirecting funding from the prison budget to justice reinvestment and other crime prevention programs.
