Renegades seal semi-finals berth

The Melbourne Renegades have hung on to a nail-biting three-run victory over the Hobart Hurricanes to secure a spot in the WBBL finals. Amy Satterthwaite produced a fine captain’s knock off 66 from 57 balls to inspire the Renegades to 6-146 before the Hurricanes were held to 6-143 in a last-ball heart-stopper in St Kilda. With the Hurricanes needing nine to win off the last over, Molly Strano held her nerve and, with five required off the final ball or four to force a super over, Corinne Hall could only muster a single.

Opener Erin Fazackerley (52) played the innings of her life and together with Indian star Smriti Mandhana (26), bludgeoned the Renegades attack during the powerplay. The introduction of legspinner Georgia Wareham - who started with a wicket maiden, the key scalp of Mandhana - boosted the home side. Quicky Leah Tahuhu (1-18) sent Fazackerley’s stumps flying before England captain Heather Knight fell for 28, though the Hurricanes were never out of the chase until the very end.
