Role of body with 30 elected representatives will be to negotiate treaty framework
Victoria is another step closer to an Indigenous treaty, with the creation of an elected body “230 years in the making” to represent all Indigenous people in the state and operate independent of government interference.
The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria will be a not-for-profit company with 30 elected representatives from six voting areas – five in regional Victoria and the sixth in metropolitan Melbourne – whose role will be to negotiate a framework for a treaty.
