Critics of the Monty Python star include comedian Dom Joly, who called Cleese’s tweet racist
Fawlty Towers star John Cleese has come under criticism for repeating his 2011 claim that London is no longer an English city.
The 79-year-old tweeted that his friends abroad agreed with his observation, adding: “So there must be some truth in it.” The actor described London, where 59.9% voted in favour of remaining in the EU, as “the UK city that voted most strongly to remain in the EU”.
