As Australia mourned the death of its 23rd prime minister, Tony Abbott drew strong criticism for striking a deeply political tone in his own tribute to Bob Hawke.
Hawke, whose death at 83 was announced Thursday night, was described by most political observers as a giant of politics who transformed the nation as Australia’s longest serving Labor prime minister between 1983 and 1991.
