Attitudes and actions done under the guise of ‘good intentions’ have shaped the education system over the past 230 years

Education, or to be more specific, formal schooling, is not and never has been neutral or apolitical within this settler-colonial state. When discussions arise regarding content, practises, policies, and support within Australian schools it is important that historical and ongoing structural racism and discrimination are considered and included within the dialogue.

In order to have honest and open discussions around the future of education, we must engage in questioning what the purpose of schooling is, and ensure we have a shared understanding of the history of the schooling systems.
