Indigenous carer who took on seven children after her sister was killed says payments were cut off multiple times
An Indigenous woman who took on the care of her dead sister’s children was cut from income support after being forced on to ParentsNext, according to a support service that has complained about the welfare program at the United Nations.
The woman’s case has been raised by the Djirra chief executive, Antoinette Braybrook, as an example of the harm caused by the program, which advocates say is particularly felt by Aboriginal women.
