The Boomers say they did not notice the reception star centre Andrew Bogut received as Australia began their basketball World Cup campaign in China with a crucial defeat of Canada. The No 1 pick in the 2005 NBA draft and reigning NBL MVP did his bit in a 108-92 defeat of Canada, who rallied from 17 points down in the third quarter to lead at the final break.
Bogut’s impact was hard to miss, given the noise from the Dongguan crowd every time he touched the ball. A prolific social media user, Bogut hit a nerve when he weighed into Mack Horton’s feud with Sun Yang last month, triggering a wave of Chinese critics defending the controversial swimmer.
