Melbourne Renegades have claimed an unwanted slice of Australian sporting history. The horror 0-5 start to their Big Bash League title defence under new coach Michael Klinger is the worst among major men’s sporting leagues this century.
Manly Sea Eagles (NRL, 2009), Adelaide 36ers (NBL, 2002-03), Brisbane Roar (A-League, 2014-15) and Sydney Thunder (BBL, 2016-17) lost their opening four matches after grand final wins the previous season but won their fifth. Melbourne Victory (2007-08) opened their A-League championship defence with five draws, while Sydney FC (2010-11) and Adelaide United (2016-17) also had draws but no wins.
