The federal government and the Doherty Institute has released expert modelling that has informed Australia’s response to Covid-19. To understand what this modelling means we need to understand how models work, what they are for, and what they tell us about what we should do.

To respond to Covid-19 effectively we need to think through what the consequences of different actions are likely to be. Epidemic models are one of the best ways to do this. An epidemic model is a much more complex version of a process all of us already perform.
