The singing of the national anthem in an Aboriginal language only highlighted how out of touch Australian sporting codes are
On Saturday, the Australian national anthem was sung in an Indigenous language (Dharug, the language of the Eora nation) for the first time at an international rugby fixture. It was only the most recent public performances of Indigenous cultural appreciation by an Australian sporting code and one that highlighted how out of touch they are – not just with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, but also with the rest of the world.
Internationally, sporting codes have been making statements of support for the Black Lives Matter movement, including supporting player protests.
