Sydney outbreak spreads to Melbourne, prompting government to move swiftly to introduce new restrictions

Six cases of community transmission of Covid-19 in Victoria has prompted the state government to swiftly introduce new restrictions hours ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, as New South Wales recorded 10 new locally acquired cases.

Acting Victorian premier Jacinta Allan said the new cases, which include three cases of community transmission announced on Wednesday night, meant measures were needed to keep Victorians safe.
