In October each year, waterbirds in eastern Australia are counted from the air. Now in its 39th year, the Eastern Australian Waterbird Survey is one of the world’s longest continuous bird counts. It is also among the largest, spanning 2.7m square km and covering up to 2,000 wetlands.
